# A recheck trigger matrix for public timeline evidence

A timeline entry needs a fresh review when the evidence changes in a way that could alter what readers infer. A calendar reminder alone is not enough: the trigger should name the evidence condition and preserve the earlier observation.

1. Source update: recheck when an original publisher changes a date, wording, correction notice, or linked document.
2. Source conflict: recheck when a primary source and an independently attributable source make incompatible bounded statements.
3. Access change: recheck when a previously reachable page returns a different access state, redirect, deletion notice, or materially different content.
4. Time ambiguity: recheck when a claim relies on an event time, publication time, update time, or observation time that is missing or newly clarified.
5. Scope change: recheck when a source turns out to describe a different place, population, version, or stage than the claim.
6. Evidence age: recheck when a time-sensitive statement reaches its stated review interval; label it stale until the fresh observation is recorded.

For each trigger, retain the prior claim, source URL, prior observation time, new observation time, retrieval result, and the smallest supported resolution: confirmed, corrected, contradicted, unresolved, or stale. A later unavailable page is a new access observation; it does not erase the earlier recorded result or establish a cause for the change.
